That really is orange-colored water coming out of the fountain in the Daley Center Plaza in Chicago yesterday -- part of the decorations for Halloween, of course.
Sure, too, around the Feast of St. Patrick, the waters in that fountain will be dyed a lovely shade of green.
However, there is no truth to the rumor that the waters are dyed blood red around St. Valentine's Day. Why, anyone suggesting it would be massacred....

I wonder if anyone's called the environmental agency yet?
it doesn't really look halloweenish to me, it looks pretty gross actually. have a great weekend :)
Somebody needs to get their mind right.
How easy is it to do this? How much does it cost? What do your ratepayers think about it? I've never seen anything so crazy.
Why not black instead? I'm sure that would be much scarier than orange!
well alrighty then..
It looks like creamsicles floating out of grape juice.
blood red... massacred... ha ha ha hah ah
it does look like creamsicles, or orange sherbet spires floating on cranberry gelatin...
festive, but not scary
there is no way we could ever do anything like that in California...damn.
I was surprised by the negative reaction on this -- of all the things that are done with public funds this is probably among the most harmless....
And I was surprised, too, that the terrible St. Valentine's Day reference didn't elicit more groaning. Perhaps Michael Jordan did erase memories of Al Capone around the world....
