Hijacked! More blog problems....

Yesterday evening, Mary Anne, of A Place I call Home, reported the hijacking of another blog, "Cathy's Rants and Ramblings." Cathy provides further information about the situation in the comments to Mary Anne's post.

Please follow the link to her post about this to learn more -- and especially if you can offer any helpful suggestions.

(OK, this time I really am going back to work....)

I don't understand how/why someone would want to hijack a blog, but you know I am a bit slow in this virtual world. If the blog is closed, then the contract with blog and ad sites is null and void, right? So if someone steals site and posts, why do ads go with it?
Sounds like best defense is no ads. So if ad folks want to generate revenue, they need to make it safe. Sorry to be a right doddums with this, but I am quite green.

Thank you for putting up this post. And for your help. I just hope he stops using my posts! I dont even understand where he is getting them from, but I imagine he is pulling them from Google's cached file and then using copy/paste.

Cathy, he was probably scraping the feeds. Google Reader caches everything, including the images and links. It's a simple matter to copy it from there to the visual editor in WordPress (I don't know about the others). It's much harder to scrape the actual posts, though it can still be done.

You hijacker is another splogger that you can add to the hundreds, if not thousands that are already out there. There is no solution right now to the overall problem. The only things that can be done are the individual things that you've already been doing.
