Heads or Tails #59 -- Black or White

In today's Heads or Tails, our fearless leader Barb, of all things Skittles, allows us to choose an essay topic between black or white or, perhaps, both. Last night, Chicago's Men in Black were eliminated from the MLB playoffs by the Tampa Bay Rays.

Barb's timing is once again uncanny!

The three Sox home games broadcast on national TV this past week (on cable's TBS) were all designated as "blackouts" by Sox promoters.

Fans came to the ballpark wearing black, many from head to toe. Shots of the stands during Tuesday's play-in game against the Twins looked, I thought, like oil rippling. Two days ago, white towels were added -- and the stands looked like animated dominoes run amuck.

Last night, the Sox were eliminated. And the black looked funereal....

Non-Chicagoans don't really understand the rivalry between Sox fans and Cubs fans, sometimes good-natured, sometimes ill-tempered (often varying according to the amount of ethanol coursing through the bloodstreams of the fans in question). But there comes a point almost every year -- this year it came sooner for Cub fans than they expected -- where our the Sox and Cub fans unite in one shared sentiment:

Wait 'til next year!

Curmudgeon -

I watch all four White Sox/Rays games on TBS. They were not Blacked out in the Tampa Bay area.

When I saw the Fans waving the white towels I figured that the were surrendering.

As I wrote in a blog a couple day ago, I don't think that I have that many next years remaining.

I was once told I was psychic. Or was that psychotic. I always get those two mixed up. ;)

Thanks for being such a loyal Hottie fan!

The hot news in the UK at the moment is why one of our major football teams, Tottenham Hotspurs, is tottering around the bottom of the league, while newly promoted Hull City, where my son has just started uni, is third from top.

That's what I like about sport - the unexpected happening.

You know, as an Indians fan, I know your pain-NOT!

You won it all in 2005. We haven't won it all since 1948, or 7 years before I was born.

But now the Cubbies will prove the movie Back to the Future prophetic by winning it all in 2015.

All cities in all sports have their rival fans.

Good post - I enjoyed it even if I'm not a sports fan!

This is all mumbo jumbo to me, but I loved the entertainment of the post!
