The Barbara Walters affair

Reading the paper in the past week or so I learned that, years ago, during their Star Wars days, Carrier Fisher acted on her crush on Harrison Ford. And that, also many years ago, Cher thought a young Tom Cruise so cute, she decided to take him home with her. If you know what I mean.

(The article I read did not mention whether the young Tom Cruise jumped on Cher's couch.)

I can't get too exercised about these revelations: Actors are traditionally public about their private lives... and they seem to live a lot.

But I find Barbara "If you were a tree what kind of tree would you be" Walters' recent revelation of her 1970's affair with a married U.S. Senator to be another matter entirely.

Once we get out of Hollywood, I thought the traditional rule applies: If a man kisses and tells, he is a cad.

What word should we use for Ms. Walters?

Uh, a journalist?

come on now, did you REALLY have to ask? ;)

I can't even imagine why she'd divulge this unless it's purely for the media buzz. So, maybe the word for her is "shameless."

You wrote what I was thinking. Walters is bottoming out. ABC News anchor, 20/20 puff reporter, "tree question" interviewer, the View; and now, grasping for thirty seconds on the likes of TMZ.com.

BW's confession kinda surprised me too...not that it happened so much as in the manner she is talking about it.

it is not action to be proud of...and the only media bite I have heard about the book...

An "aging" journalist who wanted the limelight for one more brief shining moment...

Not the way I would have wanted to me last remembered - but hey!

She always wanted her interviewees to "tell all," now she figures it's her turn to do same.

Seems unnecessary to divulge three decades later.
