Who needs comedy with real news stories like this?

According to the AP, Hasbro has recalled nearly one million Easy Bake Ovens "because a girl can burn her hands on them."

Really?

On an oven?

Who would have guessed?

Now, back in the day, Easy Bake Ovens came equipped with a socket into which a small light bulb could be inserted. That small bulb provided sufficient heat to... eventually... cook a teeny-tiny cake. The model illustrated here -- apparently the killer appliance in question -- does not appear to be fundamentally different.

Isn't it obvious that one can be burned grabbing a light bulb? Insert your own dim bulb joke here....

I had one of these as a kid, and you're right. It was just a lightbulb providing the heat. So, what gives?

Call my lawyer! I wonder what the statute of limitations is on burnt fingers caused by the killer appliance in question. I scorched my little fingers on one of those things when I was seven years old. Oh, the pain and suffering. How about it Counselor, shall we start a class action lawsuit?

next, all cakes will be recalled because they do not have the warning: "a minute in your lips, forever in your hips". geez.

Ack! I always wanted one of those when I was a kid and never got one. I bet you feel sorry for me, right? Right???

Is it just girls who use these, what about the guys?

This is another great story from you, we are not as crazy as that in the UK. I guess the company is worried about being sued.

We would have been rich if suing was a sport back in the day. I can't even tell you how many times we (all 8 of us) got burned by our Easy Bake. Not to mention all of the Stretch Armstrong goo we "accidentally" ingested.

It sounds that the authorities want to wrap us up in cotton from the start.

I had an Easy Bake oven when I was little and I believe it says write on the box and in the directions "Adult supervision required."

There is a similar product directed at boys. Not for baking goodies but creapy crawlies. I cannot remember the name of it but it works just like an Easy Bake oven. You squeeze a liquid into a few molds and push the mold tray in just like the Easy Bake oven. The one my son had was equiped with a door that would not open until the metal mold tray cooled down enough not to burn bare hands. Then you had a whole tray of creepy crawlies to throw on the wall and watch them make their way down.

I guess I'm just surprised that they didn't already put the "Caution! Lighted, Heated, Burning Lightbulb May Be Hot! And Heat May Burn Your Fingers! So Don't Touch!" warning on there to begin with. After all, isn't it the toy manufacturer's responsibility to teach kid those kinds of lessons? Sheesh!
