Musings while trying to accelerate from a standing stop

From a productivity standpoint, I like mornings, like this one, where I have an early court appearance. Particularly where (as here) the time is billable, an early morning court appearance gets the day off to a running start.

I could use that.

Lately I've been moving slower than molasses in January. Since it's January right now, this is no mere allusion: It is a verifiable fact.

This morning I was moving so slowly that Long Suffering Spouse gave up waiting for me and took Youngest Son to school herself. Even after the belated completion of my morning ablutions, I still had 15 minutes or so to browse the Internet. Not enough time to post, but enough time to follow links on interesting topics.

My problem -- or one of my problems, anyway -- is that I am interested in a lot of things. If I were more narrowly focused -- on building my practice, for example -- I might be I'm sure I would be better off.

The possible post topics come quickly when one browses. This morning I wandered down a legal trail: Though I've been in practice for over 28 years, there are so many things I don't know about so many areas of the law. This morning I was reading about legal topics that intersect with my interest in blogging. I would like to read and understand enough about these issues to be able to post semi-intelligently about them. If I had the time....

But, alas, I don't have that time today.

And there we have another dilemma in blogging: I can't always write something substantive, but I can always write something. I've just done an overlong post explaining that I don't have time to write. The very few of you who've started down this essay hoping that I might eventually get to something that might enliven your day are about to be cruelly disappointed.

Because it's time to leave for court. Post 971 should be better. I hope.

boy i hate it when i have to get sarge going early. he tends to sit and stare, you know, that glazed look? then he'll get one sock on and stare. then a shoe, stare, by now i should know what is coming and yet i still have to nudge him. his mother told me his bus driver used to have to wait at the driveway while he did the same thing...

glad it's billable!

I've recently changed my work hours to 9 to 6 instead of 7 to 4.. which, really it was 7 to 7.

Now, I still stay til 7 usually, but I'm just coming in later.

Why it took me so long to figure out I didn't have to kill myself in the mornings, I know not.

Mornings are tough for me, especially in the winter, and January - well, that's just the worst. Seems like 3 -1/2 years since Christmas came and went.

It's the blah zone.
