Heads or Tails #32 (Fool)

Hmmmmmm. Today is April Fool's Day and Barb, our spiritual guide and mentor for the weekly meme, Heads or Tails, has suggested "fool" as a topic for this week.

I don't know why.

Usually, you know, there's some sort of a tie-in to something.

Oh well. No one bats 1.000.

Nope... just don't get it....

Meanwhile, try and imagine Sammy Davis, Jr. or Anthony Newley singing "What Kind of Fool Am I?"

Words and music by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley,
from the musical, "Stop the World, I Want to Get Off"

What kind of fool am I, who never fell in love?
It seems that I'm the only one that I have been thinkin' of!
What kind of man is this, an empty shell?
A lonely cell in which an empty heart must dwell!

What kind of lips are these, that lied with every kiss?
That whispered empty words of love that left me alone like this?
Why can't I fall in love like any other man?
And maybe then I'll know what kind of fool I am!

Why can't I fall in love like any other man?
And maybe then I'll know what kind of fool I am!

Or perhaps you can imagine Frank Sinatra singing this one:

Fools Rush In
Music by Rube Bloom, lyrics by Johnny Mercer

Fools rush in
Where angels fear to tread
And so I come to you my love
My heart above my head

Though I see
The danger there
If there's a chance for me
Then I don't care

Fools rush in
Where wise men never go
But wise men never fall in love
So how are they to know

When we met
I felt my life begin
So open up your heart and let
This fool rush in

For some reason, the Ricky Nelson recording of this song was stuck in my head this morning. But I had a Billy Eckstine version in the computer to clean that out.

Meanwhile, I'll continue pondering how this theme is supposed to tie in to anything.

Nope... still nothing.

Don't worry Curmy.. you'll be okay. :)

Ack! Ricky Nelson. Noooooo.. I will NOT get any of his songs stuck in my head. I refuse!

How about April Fool by Soul Asylum? Just don't look to close at the lead singer. He's kind of icky looking.

Yeah, tough topic. And at the rate that you hit them out of the park, it's more than okay that this Heads or Tails was a grounder to 3rd. You still got on base!

Okay, stopping with the baseball metaphors, much to the relief of your reading public, I'm sure!

Don't forget Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers' "Why Do Fools Fall in Love".

I do hear Ricky Nelson on 'Fools Rush In'. But really, nothing beats the Chairman of the Board singing just about anything, especially when backed by the Nelson Riddle Orchestra...

Yep, I also hear Ricky Nelson.

Fun post, Curm. No foolin'

Hey Curm! I have no idea why the heck the theme was 'fool' this week!?!? Geesh, I must be a fool or something ;-)

Hope you had a great Tuesday. Because, that's what today is, ya know... Tuesday ;-)
