We Floridians always knew when something was launched.

When I moved to Michigan though I never heard anything about them, except for maybe a quick blurb on the news.

My guess is that people just expect us to do those things and don't view them as being as amazing as they are.Barbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13408633498198921799noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19673259.post-56930843623078691372007-07-22T10:13:00.000-05:002007-07-22T10:13:00.000-05:00I'm with Dave on this one. I see no reason to spend *any* government money in the space program.

If private industry wants to finance it for research purposes that's fine, let them do it. But until all our *real* problems (the war debacle, health care, educating our children, etc., etc., etc.) are resolved, playing Star Trek with governement money is IMO irresponsible.Hildahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02606429468531084214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19673259.post-81439664341637291832007-07-21T14:34:00.000-05:002007-07-21T14:34:00.000-05:00i just love it when you get on your soapbox curmy!...i just love it when you get on your soapbox curmy!

smiles, bee

tyvcEmpress Bee (of the high sea)https://www.blogger.com/profile/08300140506585000934noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19673259.post-32080982332209196642007-07-21T09:18:00.000-05:002007-07-21T09:18:00.000-05:00Shelby -- re: your first comment. I think that in 1969 when we actually got there, the political and national will just was't there anymore. how much further could you get than the moon? The current President's support of a revived manned space program might just do nothing except make the space program a big, fat target for the next Occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. I just wish we could take the politics out of this one: There is such a thing as a policy which is so clearly in the national interest that it should transcend (be permitted to transcend) grubby politics. In this case, a meaningful manned return to space is not just in the nation's interest, it's in our interest as a species... but I was trying to get off the soapbox this afternoon. The Curmudgeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14723009641287783218noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19673259.post-5850910504112179042007-07-20T16:36:00.000-05:002007-07-20T16:36:00.000-05:00Flying cars a la Jetsons probably won't get here u...Flying cars a la Jetsons probably won't get here until the year 2525...I agree it is sad that more advances haven't been made.
