I mean to ensure that they have the same rights as those in the majority.

Until the majority learns to protect the rights of the minority (because at some point, they might be the minority themselves) then the government has a job that must be done.

I don't see the majority considering the minorities rights at the moment or in the near future. Though I don't like government involvement in everything; I really don't like the majority deciding how people should live their lives. The Exceptionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13758654167029552230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19673259.post-32613446264201314822008-05-20T20:42:00.000-05:002008-05-20T20:42:00.000-05:00I read that first page of California jurisprudence...I read that first page of California jurisprudence...oy vey.

Now I'm glad I didn't go to law school.
How do you do it????Pattihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04418107045479403480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19673259.post-9568900325505186812008-05-20T12:46:00.000-05:002008-05-20T12:46:00.000-05:00I'm probably wrong on this but historically wasn't...I'm probably wrong on this but historically wasn't there never really such a thing as a formal marriage to begin with? Weren't common law marriages the norm until someone decided that it needed to be recognized by law - probably someone who was a future divorce lawyer?Lindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05698969349369789642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19673259.post-75227858621303381322008-05-20T03:37:00.000-05:002008-05-20T03:37:00.000-05:00I couldn't agree with you more...let the state and...I couldn't agree with you more...let the state and the church get out of the marriage business....I mean is it really any of my business John and Joe want to marry....as my mother would say...it's all well and good so long as no one loses an eye.....

Interesting topic Curmudge....nice to be back paying you a visit....Smalltown RNhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08806734351278128551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19673259.post-31052258388790915852008-05-19T21:49:00.000-05:002008-05-19T21:49:00.000-05:00Dear Curmudgeon, AMEN! Until then, providing the "legal right" to marry to men and men and women and women and combinations thereof is a legitimate business of the courts.

Maybe same sex marriage isn't a "fundamental right"; but, government has no interest, much less a compeling interest, in preventing it (constitutional legalese).Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04411527807049220749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19673259.post-52346330685063804182008-05-19T13:55:00.000-05:002008-05-19T13:55:00.000-05:00I think you'd be surprised at just how many folks ...I think you'd be surprised at just how many folks agree with you. Here in South Carolina if you co-habitate with someone long enough you don't even need a license. It's called a common law marriage. Of course our state does not recognize gay marriages either.Ben and Benniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12165216797183902071noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19673259.post-15782018176208927522008-05-19T10:07:00.000-05:002008-05-19T10:07:00.000-05:00i am and always have been in the "live and let liv...i am and always have been in the "live and let live" arena. funny, i have so many "lefty" feelings for someone who is a "righty"! ha ha ha

smiles, bee
tyvcEmpress Bee (of the high sea)https://www.blogger.com/profile/08300140506585000934noreply@blogger.com
