Is everybody home yet from New Year's Eve?

Middle Son is still Downstate as I write this: He and a group of friends (mostly from his high school days) went to Champaign for New Year's Eve. There was some discussion about whether they'd start back for Chicago before or after the Rose Bowl.

After won.

And when Middle Son called late yesterday afternoon to inquire whether we would have strong objection to this staying an extra night, Long Suffering Spouse and I readily agreed: Better to come home in the morning, clear-eyed and clear-headed.

But my New Year's Eve anxiety meter is still ticking. And it's already January 2.

Long Suffering Spouse and the kids who are still at home are lamenting these last couple of days of their Christmas break are already here. But as for me... well, I'm kind of happy that the break is ending.

No, I'm not still imitating Ebeneezer Scrooge or the Grinch... it's just... well, when everyone in the house has to get up in the morning, it's much easier for me to get up in the morning, too. There's a certain comfort in an established routine, isn't there?

Well I'm back at the office today, so New Year is over.

Is it that it is comforting to have others around to make you more willing to get up or is it maybe too that "misery loves company" ya know.
I usually liked having sometime being alone when I got up -to get a shower, dressed, etc., without having to fight for bathroom usage, and all that rigamaroo but at the same time, I hated being the only one who HAD to be up to get ready for work as there's just something somewhat unfair about that part of the deal, isn't there?

As a creature of habit, I am rather glad when things go back into their routine. Amanda went back to school this morning, Jamie heads down to Florida on Saturday, and then things will settle in for the winter - which means that Spring is on the way and warmer weather! Yay!

Best wishes for a warm and happy new year!!

I can't decide. Routine is a comfort zone; but holidays with no special routine to follow are fun.

We are not home yet but at least one of us is reasdy to be home. I'm still hedging my bets about where 'home' really is for me. Sigh. Now I just manage to be homesick no matter which side of the pond I am on.

My only son and his darling wife have four teens, who are supposedly being homeschooled. I never see an open book or a notebook. They are up until 2 or 3 in the morning watching T.V., listening to music, on My Space or just generally goofing off. The son gets up at 6:30, while not a creature is stirring until 11 or 12 Somehow, this seems all akimbo to me. How can the breadwinner sleep when all about are all about?
